Both Anara & Javier of MetaMovements have trained in Cuban Modern Technique with masters like Tomás Guilarte and Luis Roblejo in Cuba for over a decade. In the beginning, they both experienced technique as an important training tool, but over time, they each fell deeply in love with the movement and music, and it became a central focus of their artistry.

At age 10, Javier was accepted into Cuba’s National Art School and began winning awards in national and international competitions as both a dancer and choreographer. He graduated with honors and a performing arts & education degree, and was selected for an internship at the country’s National Contemporary Dance Company. In 2022, he joined the company, performing in major works and touring Russia, as well as becoming their youngest teacher.
